About Us:

The Capital Area Young Marines is one of over 300 units belonging to the National Young Marines Program.  The Young Marines is a youth education and service program for boys and girls, ages 8 through completion of high school.  The Young Marines promotes the mental, moral, and physical development of its members by focusing on character building, leadership, and promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

As participants in the Capital Area Young Marines, our kids receive opportunities to build their leadership skills through challenging events such as camping, close order drill, land navigation and many other activities.  They also have the opportunity to earn promotions and ribbons through their achievements and travel through participation in National Schools and encampments with other units.  Our greatest satisfaction is in helping kids develop greater self-esteem, discipline, and self-confidence.

Past events for the Capital Area Young Marines include overnight camping at Enchanted Rock with rappelling, visiting servicemen at the Kerrville VA Hospital, trips to see an aircraft carrier at Corpus Christi and tour the Coast Guard station at Galveston, participating in a memorial service in Bremond for a fallen Marine recently discovered in Vietnam, providing the color guard for a memorial service at Sun City and a September 11 remembrance ceremony, assisting with community events such as Toys for Tots, the 3M Marathon, the Parks and Wildlife Expo, and TDS Wildlife Ranch, and meeting YMs from across Texas at the Regimental Encampment.

The Capital Area Young Marines' Drill Team beat out teams from Corpus Christi, Parker County, Tarrant County, and Waco to win first place in the Drill Team Competition at the Texas Regimental Encampment held at Camp Bullis in July 2004.

Please do not misunderstand our intentions.  It is not our goal to mold your children into Marines. We do not teach weapons, warfare, or tactics.  But we do wear the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor on our covers and our uniforms are similar to the United States Marines.  We take pride in our appearance and conduct.

The Young Marines program is not a summer camp, day care, or military school.  It is a challenging, exciting and motivating program that requires commitment to excellence.
