HOW TO JOIN
The Capital Area Young Marines program is open to all youth ages 8 years of age through completion of high school. The only membership requirement is that the youth must be in good standing at school. Our Young Marines and staff reside across Central Texas which includes; San Antonio, Houston, and Taylor. Our service area stretches from Killeen, Temple, Johnson City, Fredericksburg, College Station and Brenhan, Texas.
Upon joining the Capital Area Young Marines unit, all members must undergo a 26-hour orientation program, generally spread out over several weekly meetings, known as Recruit Training. The recruits learn general subjects such as; history, customs, courtesies, close order drill, physical fitness, and military rank structure. After graduating from the Young Marine Recruit Training, the youth have the opportunity to learn new skills, earn rank, wear the Young Marines uniform and work towards ribbon awards. Young Marines earn ribbons for achievement in areas such as leadership, community service, academic excellence, first aid and drug resistance education.
